History of Lafayette Hill

Lafayette Hill gets its name from a French general by the name of Marquis de Lafayette who lived here during the American Revolution. Nevertheless, the original residents of the area were Lenni Lanape Indians. Europeans arrived in 1683 and purchased the land from a man named William Penn.

During the year 1686, limestone was discovered in a nearby town, which quickly drew even more settlers to Lafayette Hill and the surrounding areas. Soon after this, the town was known most for its famous limestone quarries and impressive English estates.
